Speaking of reviewing artists- anyone know of any INSTRUMENTAL
funk-jazz/acid-jazz, (whatever) bands that have got HEAVY & FUNKY chops?
When I say Heavy/Funky I speak of artists such as Medeski,Martin & Wood,
who play a funkier, more a-LIVE blend than any other act I've heard.
They're SO good I hesitate to even call them acid-jazz, or anything
for that matter....the best description I've heard so far is:
"SUN RA meets Sanford & Son at Sesame ST."
{ok, I admit- I just added the Sesame ST. part- but it fits....}
*For those who don't know: lineup is: Hammond B-3/upright bass/drums*

Btw, is the James Taylor Quartet as HEAVY as these guys? Or are they
more tame? (I have not heard them at all...)

Thanks in advance for any recommendations-

p.s.- pickup "Friday Afternoon in the Universe" by MMW.
(on Gramavision/Rykodisc)- it'll 'move' your body & mind....
Btw, MMW REALLY streches out live. RUN, don't walk, to see 'em.
