Jon Spencer is of NYC trashrock's Pussy Galore fame... the blues
explosion album ORANGE (his latest) is pretty funky in parts, but some
songs sound like bad country/hard rock or much like the punk band The
Minutemen. his other albums are EXTRA WIDTH (Matador), CRYPT STYLE
(Crypt) and BLUES EXPLOSION(Caroline). of the three only EXTRA WIDTH
contains
elements of funk and soul. when they're funky it's like if the meters
were white. i definitely don't recommend it to everyone here on acid
jazz so remember: bad country/hard rock... if the meters were white --
fusion.

i've seen them a few times and it's a pretty good show. jon spencer's
got a great stage act, he's got the showman chops DOWN. real heavy
butt-shaking funk, except, no bass. does he have a bass player now? his
blues explosion lineup is j.spencer - gtr, theremin / r.simmons - drums /
j.bauer- gtr. on all four albums w/ beck bustin' on a section of one
track from ORANGE. hope this helps...
