Craig,
It may be noble and grand to believe that opening the minds of hip-
hoppers and rap fans to acid jazz and trip-hop (or whatever the hell you
want to call it this week) is going to be easier by calling the music
hip-hop instead of trip-hop or something like that but the reality is
they don't buy the records (at least in any quantity) so it doesn't
really matter what you call the music (in regards to them). And if by
calling the music trip-hop (as misguided and imperfect as that may be)
helps sell records to the people who do give a damn (whether they be ex-
ravers or not) so be it. And lastly can we all come clean and admit the
damn drug influence to this music? There's a reason why that Mo' Wax
record is called Headz..and why so many of the records have weed or
marijuana references. Is everyone in denial? Go to the jazz parties or
clubs whether they be in NY, Chicago, San Fran or London and there will
be weed smoking and that music (to SOME degree) reflects that mood, that
vibe and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Food for thought or have we all gone straight edge.
