Distribution is a major problem for small independent labels. I have heard that
you actually need to have TWO hit records, so that you can use the second as
leverage for getting paid for the shipment on the first. Also, independent
distributors can go out of business, leaving you with a bill that can't be paid.
I have had this happen to a guy I know down in Miami who has his own house music
label & distribution co. You are right, however. Until one of the majors buys
out an acid jazz independent label or artist on such a label, you won't see much
acid jazz material in a regular record store or retail outlet.

If it helps you any, I don't know of an acid jazz label that DOES have
good distributuion. Although I have great hopes for acid jazz, I don't
see any good deals in the horizon until one of the labels has a runaway
hit.... Only then, will an acid jazz label have enough clout to get paid
on time from their distributor!
