Acid Jazz?

Fellow funkateers

As a brit living in this fair land i am amazed at the amount of topics i skip
on this mailing list just by simply scanning the subject list. Whilst on the
London-Southeast England scene i simply never discussed the topics of whether
hip hop was acid jazz or vice versa, i simply chucked my hips backwards and
forwards alot and slapped my right thumb to anything that had predominantly
jazz feel with a funky flavour....

That appeared to be it.

I find it kind of strange no mention is really ever made of the pioneers of
the genre (unless i havent been on here long enough)...there is no talk of a
Reuben Wilson or a Idris Muhammed...no discussion as to whether the mighty
wah of Funk Inc can outstrip the wonderful melodies of the infamous Grant
Green...............and where is all the talk on what Doctor Donald Byrd was
doing then and what he certainly is doing now.

Forgive me if i appear to indignant to the subject.....i certainly am not but
"real time" acid jazzers lets open up some discussion on the people of the
above.

And forget not Jimmy McGriff the godfather of the hammond, how about some
Bobbi Humphrey or some Ivan 'Boogaloo' Jones........

These artists are what brought it on and they probably didn't even whisper
about whose lick they were taking.......kind of ironic as alot of the hip hop
rap boys sample their stuff.

P.S. For what its worth, tunes to check out:

D-Influence (they've surpassed themselves -" Prayer 4 unity" {east-west} is a
classic in my eyes even on the first pass, ssssshhhhhake it Sarah)
Keziah Jones - heads up FunkRock on his new "African SpaceCraft" {delabel},
(and should probably not be mentioned on this list but i thought i'd mutter
just in case Flea and Mr Keidis may want to pick up a hint or two - someone
pass it on)
FreakPower, cant remember the title or label but Normans really cut the path
he always should have done.................poppy with a dash of P-Funk here
and there.....hot in the UK at the moment.

I'll shut up for now.........Cheers all!
