Tricky's going to be making a return appearance in Seattle, at Moe on
Sunday 9/24 and Monday 9/25. Laika will be opening each night as well
as local DJ talent - Masa on Sunday and Riz (whose Mo' Funk show this
will apparently supercede) on Monday. Since the show begins at 9pm
both nights I'm guessing that both Spice and Mo'Funk will be put off
for this week. But don't worry! You can still catch Riz at his "new"
night ("hump" !) on Wednesday at the Re-Bar. Sure it's just a
renaming, but what a name!

Now, normally I would be at the Crocodile Cafe on a Wednesday
participatin' in the most excellent "Strong" AJ night. Fortunately for
just this week, Strong has been moved to Tuesday night instead so keep
this in mind. And I stress: _you must_ check out Strong. It has
rapidly become the premier Wednesday night AJ event. Still not as many
patrons mullin' about as, say, Spice (Moe/Sunday) but that's sometimes
a good thing. In either case, props to Brian Lyons and Tasty Shows for
turning what was essentially a grunge/garage band club into a
playground for beautiful hipsters at least one night a week :)
Although some AJish acts like Critters Buggin' did move through the
Croc before Strong, this night has certainly cemented its reputation
'round town. Bringing in excellent DJ's like Mike Z and Masa (recent
spinners) didn't hurt and the cherry on the sundae is Dominator's
scratch wizardry.

Of coz, don't forget in all this Strong madness that Spice is still
going, well, strong! I think that Nasir and his crew have been
spinning a more varied set recently and I like it. And as Luke from
Vancouver pointed out, Nasir's got his first production on the rack.
But if you can't find it or don't do the vinyl thing, presumably he'll
spin it sometime in his special appearance for "Sublime" night, Wed
October 4th at Moe's.

In other AJ DJ news, though he's now seen regularly at Strong, Mike Z
also has his own night at Zasu, the fairly new dance club right next to
Doc Maynard's in Pioneer Square. Call me superficial: I don't exactly
look forward to shakin' it next to the 40-year-old Pioneer Square
crowd. But the last two times I hit Zasu I was pleasantly surprised by
the crowd. And who's to say that 40+ year-olds don't deserve some AJ
funkiness as well - except maybe Fingers - and Mike Z can serve it up
with the best of 'em.

Finally: Skylab #1 is finally available on domestic CD and barring
personal distaste for domestic rereleases you can/should pick it up in
towering record stores everywhere or better yet I bet you could order
it from Bad Mood Records!
