Hey man, there's no question that IF YOU CAN PULL OFF YOUR SONGS IN A LIVE
FORMAT you should record straight to 2 track (DAT if you like digital
sound, but personally I'd reccomend 1" reel to reel analog.) actually you
might want to look into recording to VIDEO tape as I've heard that it works
quite well.

Mixers: get a Mackie mixer. just get one they're affordable.

Amps: I use a carver but I have no particular affinity for that brand.

Monitors: I was very impressed by the Alessis Monitor One series. A lot of
people like JBL monitors. It's a personal choice, but keep in mind you're
looking for a monitor which gives you an UNBIASED reference point for your
mix (this is important because if I used my home speakers to monitor my
mixdown, my product would only sound good on MY system. A monitor speaker
gives you an unbiased reference so your product sounds good on ANY system.
get it? good.)
