well, off the top of my head...
emperor's new clothes (acid jazz label) really out there instrumentation...
groove collective (minimal vocals, epecially on their eponymous debut;
giant step)
night trains (instinct)
slowly (instinct)
i don't know how you feel about samples, but the stuff coming out on
ninja tune (hedfunk, funki porcini, coldcut/dj food, etc.) are of a more
electronic bent, but they're still excellent. try their label or their
releases on the u.s. instinct affiliate shadow records
some compilations that are good...
this is acid jazz series on instinct
totally wired series on acid jazz
