Well... that depends. Does your reciever have a MC (coil) or MM (magnet)
phono board? MC cartridges ususally have a low output (but there are high
output MC's), so they need extra amplification of the signal comming off
of the cartridge. I think that MC's are considered to *generally* offer
better sound. There are some good sounding MM cartridges though. If you
go for a MC, then I'd go for a high output one. Phono boards in most
consumer products are probably set up for MM use (which are usually higher
output than MC's). I've heard that the Sumiko blue point, blue point
special, or Benz MC20 are good cartridges (MC), that should work for a MM
board, and are not too much $$. But I'd check with your local dealer
first on the compatibility with your amplifier.
