i would say that it depends on what style you take when you create. do you
map out everything beforehand, or are you very spontaneous? another factor
is cash, how much are you looking to spend (i.e. as little as possible, money
is no object, somewhere between the last 2). roland units usually give a lot
of bang for the buck, but aren't that intuitive usually. emu's stuff is often
quite easy to figure out, but isn't always the most inexpensive. akai's stuff
is easy, but the affordable units aren't usually that extensive (e.g. limited
#of outputs, editing options). the sound of all three that i've mentioned are
quite good. i haven't been keeping up w/the sampler market per se, which is
why i'm not mentioning specific models. i've been more interested in hard
disk recording (computer based, rather than standalone units).
