Hello Everybody!!!!

Well I have been getting quite around on the traveling tip lately and
have managed to pich up a few CD's which have been mentioned on this
list:

A while back I remembered an Aussy member of the acid jazz list
recommended the Cubon son group Sierra Maestra and the album
Dundunbanza which is quite good. On a related tip I would also
recommend the new album by Sierra Maestra's trumpet played Jesus
Alemany Cubanismo which is also quite good.

Also a while back I remember I think a Brazilian member of the mods
list recommending Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and I managed to find the
collection Vasos Vacios and the newer album Rey Azucar and was really
suprised and pleased by both of them. I would love to see these guys
live (particularly in a room full of Brazilian women!!!!! ;->~).

Also finally was able to find the Society of Soul album Brainchild
which I have seen mentioned on the funky music list and to be perfectly
honest on the first listening was not that impressed. Same with
Maxwell, too retro IMHO, and I think D'Angelo and Tony Rich rule in
this new
alternative R & B deptartment. The latter bring the elements of classic
soul forward, rather than being retro.

And while on the subject of classic soul, picked up a few Curtis
Mayfield reissues in NYC, the soundtrack Short Eyes which was just
mentioned on the acid jazz list, and contains the epic Do Do Wap is
Strong In Here, and a CD with BOTH This Is My Country and The Young
Mod's Gorgotten Story by Curtis and The Impressions. I already had
Young Mod's Forgotten Story (anyoe on the mods list who doesn't have
this one should either immediatel;y go by it or be banned permenently
from the list!!!!), but This Is My Country is soulful, funky and a
welcome addition.

Other finds are the (new??) CD from Juan Luis Guerra & Grouppo 440
Grandes Exitos De Juan Guerra which continues the niche of combining
afro pop with latin musics, Fela's Original Sufferhead which is the
pinacle of afro pop IMHO, the bluesy and groovy Babba Mall on Djam
Leelii another classic of african music, and the groovin' sounds of
Peregoyo y su Combo Vacana's Tropicalismo...

There are however a few titles mentioned on the mods list which I have
been unable to locate and I wanted to mention them to see if anyone
could give me additional info or direct me to a source: IRA!-pure mod
powerpop in portugese....O-Paralamas De Sucesso (2 tone in brazil)...
The Stairs- Mexican R & B...Zulema- Back Row Of Your Heart...any help
on these titles would be much appreciated...

BTW, someone on the Weller list was again asking for info on Juan Diaz
at Spider Web Records and he is at hotburrito@aol.com...I have used
Juan's service myself and can highly recommend him to anyone looking
for Weller boots...probably other kinds too

All for now...

Peace...

Jeffrey
