The reason that Festivals like Phoenix and Glastonbury work over
here is simply a matter of size. You can't take a festival on tour.
Part of the fun of going to a festival is the effort you are making
to travel hundreds of miles to meet with like minded people from all
over the country. The size of the US makes this almost impossible although
I am sure that there must be regional festivals of a similar size.

There is a European festival circuit but you won't find it set up as
a package tour. Each festival has its own character.

The other thing to remember is that these festivals aren't about one
style of music. You get everything from comedy and cabaret to indie and
hardcore. You are free to go to whatever you want (provided you can get
through all the crowds of people who always want to go in the opposite
direction).
