Yo -

The Man's name is Maceo Parker, and he was/is James's Alto sax
man (although he started out on Tenor and Bari). His gigs nowadays
alternate between his stuff with the JB horns (Fred wesley and Pee wee
ellis) and his solo stuff (which often features Fred). But Maceo is a
chronicle of funk, man. Not only did he play with the might JB, but he
was a member of the Horny Horns, the p-funk horn section. His jazz stuff
(on the Mo' Roots and Roots revisited albums, and his work on fred's
stuff) is equally impressive and if we're talking about roots of Acid
jazz, maceo is a huge factor. I saw him live in Boston this winter with
Fred and the man was incredible. Best show I'vew seen in ages. You MUST
check him out, buy all his albums, and dig into the groove.

peace -

Z-love
