Who are the New Jersey Kings?

I'm a late bloomer tuning into the New Jersey Kings. I've heard their
first album "Party to the Bus Stop" and their latest, "Stratosphere
Breakdown". The album cover art* is extremely bad (as in the not-good sense),
but the music just grooves. The liner notes imply that the NJK is some
obscure American funk band from the 70s whose session tapes were
discovered recently in some vault. I don't seem to buy that. Definitely
sounds like it was recorded in the past few years, and by British
musicians (more like old Jersey than New Jersey, heh). There's no
mention of songwriting credit (othern than to the NJK themselves) or band
members...Methinks the NJK is a side-project of various Acid Jazz label
musicians - their stuff is very much in the BNH/JTQ vein.

Does anyone have the lowdown on the NJK?

* The album cover art on the first album is credited to "Matt Deighton" -
SURPRISE! - The leader of Mother Earth. Do we have a clue here or what?
