These are actually not Fred albums, but Horny Horns albums. The Horny
Horns were P-Funk's horn section, headed by Fred, but featuring Maceo
equally, if not more (all the album's say "featuring MACEO PARKER! on the
covers...). The band is simply p-funk, with Bootsy and crew playing a big
role, and even featuring a cover of "Get Up For the Downstroke" on one
album. They actually have Three albums (A Blow for me, a toot to you
and Say blow by blow backwards, with the third being The Final Blow, a
collection of outakes and unrealeased stuff).

All three albums have been recently re-released on CD, featuring re-mixes
by (I think...) George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, and interviews with them.
Altogether fairly fresh if you like the p-funk sound done up heavily with
horns.

FRED's albums, New Friends, Comme Ci Comme Ca, and Amalgamation are
really jazz-oriented and quite dope. Karl Denson of Greyboy fame is
featured on the latter two along with some other great names, and New
Friends is one of my favorite jazz albums of all time. Almalgamation is
the funkiest of the three, but all of them have funky elements.

Buy 'em. Be Happy.
