New stuff for me

Hi,

I've been pretty intimidated by list volume - I was away for a week
and have tonnes of messages in my inbox (surprise). First off I want to
give a big up to the guys at Tower Records on Pennsylvania Ave ni
Washington DC. They have put together a great selection of music we all
enjoy and were really helpful in giving advice. Needless to say I walked
out with a *few* discs!

OK, stuff worth mentioning:

Pussy Galore is GREAT! I had all kinds of preconceptions regarding this
one (James Bond themes etc) but I didn't expect this. There is a real
howie b feel to this compilation. The Bond sound comes through a haze of
smoke and headzy bass. How do they come up with those great shakey
sounds?! Thanks for pointing this one out to me.

Promised Land Volume II: The cover says "compilation of deep beats and
mellow drum and bass" could be forgettable stuff but it's not. Fabio
mixes the tracks and, the highlight, Cleveland Watkiss gives the vocals.
I can't wait to get my hands on Project 23 if this is anything to go by.
The track selection is pretty good (F Jam from Adam F is the bizness) and
Cleveland voice floats over the drums like a sax. A really great concept.

Tek 9: It's not what you think it is!?!!
No shit! Two cds again. One old and one new. The new stuff has a hip
hop sound with King Britt having some input. Nice reworking of some
classic loops. Old stuff is mixed up jungle style with a nice effect.
Great value for money as you get two solid hours of music from essentially
two different genres.

Red Snapper, Prince Blimey:
Fantastic stuff. I love that double bass! Based on this collection of
tracks I HAVE to see these guys live if I can. So damn funky. People
have commented on this before and they are totally right.

Could go on but i'll leave it at that to save bandwidth.

Questions:

I saw a cd "Miscellaneous" from some unheard-of-by-me label. The cover
sleeve was silver ...

Olive has been out for a while (Extra Virgin) anybody have it/like it out
there?

Comments:

I hate to jump on the bandwagon but DJ Shadow is the man. If you can't
hear it that's too bad, but just play his stuff and marvel at the sense of
peace that sweeps over you.

Black Secret Technology hasn't been rereleased *yet* but I'm waiting for
it!

Cup of Tea compilation has to be one the highs of '96 for me.
