Phil asked:

could anyone tell me what's happening on the Japanese Acid Jazz/Hip-Hop
at the moment? What's the state of play with Belissima at the moment?
I heard that it was in some financial trouble + the Takemura had left
the label to start up a new one. What's the latest news on the Silent
Poets front? Anybody got any ideas??

Bellissima records is still operating, although it no longer lays claim
to Takemura, The Silent Poets or Spiritual Vibes. It has been changed
and it putting out "female Japanese pop music" with two acts: Cosa
Nostra and Akiko - mostly limited to domestic distribution within
Japan.

Fear not, however! Takemura is "label producer" of Idyllic Records
which has been home to the Silent Poets, Spiritual Vibes and Natural
Calamity for about a year now. They have about 4 releases, including
some remix albums and the last Silent Poets record, entitled "Firm
Roots" Natural Calamity is a strange duo that puts out very spacey
jazzy, cocteau twins songs. They did a brilliant cover of "The Creator
Has A Master Plan with Simon Richmond or Palmskin Productions on it and
I loved it.

Check out a new Takemura remix record and some more treats from
Spiritual Vibes in the months to come...

Idyllic Records....good shit from Japan
