I saw Maxwell at The Roxy in Atlanta on Oct. 9. Maxwell is an interesting
performer. His voice was on, but his band, though good, was not full. I think
having one keyboard player had something to do with that. He reminded me of
Prince in his performance; it was more like theatre; it was choreographed;
some of his facial expressions were pasted on. He was playing with the
audience. You could tell everything was planned and all. He appeared to
be enjoying himself very much, but on the other hand I wasn't really
enjoying myself.

To make a long story short, it did not move me. I felt very much like
an observer, sort of detached. Even when he did his "hit" Don't Ever Wonder
I didn't even bop my head. However, I can be quite critical, and the way
some of the women were swooning, hollering, etc. he is the best thing
since sliced bread. His vocals sometimes got lost in the music.

Enough of Maxwell, I CAN NOT STOP playing Nicolette's "Do not let anyone
live rent free in your head" (or something like that; it's almost as bad as
Fishbone's "Give a monkey a brain and he'll think he's the center of the
universe."). Can anyone tell me something about the album before this one?
I did not know she existed before her vocals on Massive Attack's last one.
Her vocals creep into your brain and just lurk there. Upon first listen,
I was like this is some weird stuff, but I kept being drawn to it.
Also, I'm addicted to that "Red, Hot, and Rio" Cd.

I have the new album by Sade's band, "Sweetback." In the press, I had
read some things about it having some drum & bass and trip hop tracks.
I don't think so. It's pretty bland to me. I guess I'll have to listen
to it some more.

Does anyone have that OHM GURU cd on Irma? How does that sound? I know it's
old.
