Are you trying to equalise the sound before it goes onto tape? If you are,
then you are probably trying to put too much treble on tape. If you want a
full range frequency response from a cassette then you'll have to record at
-10 or -20 dB. Cassettes rely on the fact that there isn't too much energy
at high frequencies in normal music. Metal tapes are better if your
cassette deck can handle them. Of course some people prefer the rounded
sound that tape compression gives you.
