Great to see that you listed 'Funky Space Reincarnation' as one of your
rare groove tracks. I have been working today and one of the albums I
listned to was 'Here My Dear' , the album the said song is from. A number
of the tracks have got ripper rhythm tracks on them and Marvin really goes
out there with the lyrics. It is one of the most emotionally bleak soul
albums that I have ever heard.

It's out there teetering on the edge because th album was recorded inthe
wake of his divorce from Anna Gordy, his wife and sister of Berry Gordy,
founder of Motown Records. As part of the divorce setllement there was an
agreement along the lines that Marvin would record an album from which all
the proceeds would go to the ex-wife. MArvin went into the recording
studio and came out with this bleak, messy masterpiece of an album.

Having finished listening to Marvin Gaye, i have just slipped on David
Byrne and Brian Eno's ' My Life In The Bush of Ghosts' (god I hope i have
got the title right. For those of you who like electronic / breakbeat hip
hop, you should listen to this album. It's early 80's New York avant funk
with heaps of cut ups and taped voiceovers. This was the first of David
Byrne's forays into the funk and it really leaves all the Talking Heads
stuff for dead. What's this got to do with acid jazz/nu groove/ soul jazz?
If you like trip hop and the more electronic / instrumental hip hop sound,
you might find this an interesting early 80's antecedent.

cheers
