Exactly. Don't quote me, but mass-produced CDs, if divided by actual cost
per unit, would end up at anywhere between $2-$6US per CD (I'm probably
wrong, but just to give a general idea). If people paid $12-$15US as they
do for a store-bought CD, it would probably cover the costs of the other
copies. If we get a good deal, we can probably sell them at $10 each and
cover the costs easily.

Concidering the amount of dj's and publishers on this list marketing
shouldnt be a problem, and if we invest in extrernal marketing in
relevant publications (as Elson

allso mentioned) we should be able to reach hell of alota people.

Ontop of this you get the marketing done by importers/distrobuters and
shops that might carry it :)

I am at present planning on getting a small import-thing going (alot of
independent stuff is allmost *impossible* to find here in norway) and I
for one would defenetly try to get shops to buy the compilation (if it
even occures).

IMHO (the operative word is "my" here), the main priority is to come out
with a tangible music playback medium by which we can showcase and share
the individual talents of this mailing list. We shouldn't lose sight of
that. Financially, the high priority is to break even, rather than make a
profit.

It would be *wonderful* to make a profit, and I'd be glad if we did, but
it opens up other issues - where would that money go?

An "Acid Jazz List" trust fund? To fund Acid Jazz clubs in third world
countries? To me? (j/k :)) The best place it should go, I guess is to
fund additional copies or future comps.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against public distribution, I just don't
think we should sweat it, you know? But if we have opportunities out
there, then we should go for it. I *seriously* doubt that the Ubiquity or
Talkin Loud or Ninja Tune or Moonshine or what have you folks would
gobble this up and release it under their label (though I welcome the
opportunity for them to prove me wrong!), but when I mentioned getting
the help of "label people", what I had in mind was to hopefully have them
offer their wisdom and sage advice about the nuts & bolts in making a
"Compilation," of which they have had great experience in and which we
have relatively none.

Also, *we* know what the "Acid Jazz Mailing List" is, but does the
general public? Everyone and their dog knows about the internet by now,
but not everyone is enightened about the concept of listservs. To be
honest, I feel a bit awkward wearing my "Acid Jazz Mailing List" T-shirt,
because it seems people might be confused with the term "Mailing List"
for traditional (postal) mailing lists for some reason.

All that said, I would guess that the best thing to combat the general
public's "ignorance" (that's a strong word, but it's for lack of a better
one) about our "Mailing List" is to offer a brief and concise explanation
about how the mailing list works, etc in the liner notes.
