Earthlings,

Well, I don't recall any comments on the new Massive Attack single "Rising Sun" but it has been the subject of conversations around here. I like it and the Underdog Mix. It is a bit of departure from their previous sound as the sample a guitar pretty prominently and use more vocal processing for 3-D. Thus, it is a harder edged song (both musically and lyrically). Two others I know thing its a much more major departure and one "big fan" was disappointed. My only disappointment was the album cover which are usually innovative and cool.

I also heard the Massive Attack full length will not be out until 1998.

Some personal comments on things already discussed:

Fila Brazillia *Luck Be a Weirdo Tonight* is pretty good and jazzier than the other releases I have. There is some nice quiet stuff again but some beatier moments as well. My personal fave is "Van Allen Belt" at the moment.

Urban Species *Religion and Politics* EP is pretty weak lyrically and especially musically. Not much going on and I recommend missing this one altogether.

United Future Organization *3rd Perspective* I finally got around to getting the domestic release of this one and I think it is excellent. Better music on the whole than previous releases--smooth jazzy stuff and with some 70's Brazilian feel on a few. The spy theme and lyrics of this don't do much for me but I am not complaining because it is an excellent release. Also, I am going to see them Wednesday here in Chicago (let me know if you want to be identified because I would be up for that).

Up, Bustle, and Out "Compared to What/Emerald Alley"-- I guess UBO have a new full length out but I am gonna wait until it comes out domestically if its soon. Anyway, this single is excellent. "Compared to What" is beaty "hip hop" with some ok rhymes (this is not the Les McCann song which, while consider "pop jazz" by some and hence not happening, I still love). I think the real gem (pun intended) is "Emerald Alley". Nice sitar intro and then builds into a really danceable groove (a la Black Star Liner).

I would also be interested in any more word on the Pierre Henry remix project that was discussed a while back on this list. I love both the Fat Boy Slim and Coldcut remixes of "Psyche Rock" and don't want to miss this when it comes out. Does anyone know the label/other particulars/wild rumors(I apologize if this was already mentioned)?

Well that's enough.

Peace,

Jim
