Dear List:
In reply to your question about the Classic breaks and beats series: No!
Actually ,it's more complicated than that: generally drums loops
dont cause law-suits. Legally, they could but practcally, they dont. The
only lop that will get you sued is "impeach the president" as used by
eric B & Rakim( Eric B. For president and others. Story is AAron Fuchs
of Tuff city records bought the master and then retroactively sued
everyone who used it. He nailed Ll cool j for using it on his "mama said
knock you out album" . This little s**T is now seling "riffs for dj "
albums and if you buy them watch out! Generally, though , the
hassle is potential. Even James brown who has started demanding
clearances does not for drums . Proof : jungle. If those guys cleared
samples they wouldnt exist today. Plus you can EQ the loop to
hide it. lastkly theres not enough money in indie trip-hop and dance
to merit the scrutiny. markeg@hotmail.com
