Repetition in instrumental music

dear list:
I just played a partially finished track for my cousin- in -law. The
song was in the breakbeat style and was sort of a todd- terry with
breaks -beat and sample deal. Upon listening she said that while i used
2 different beats in the song it was still repetitive. I was happy that
she was at least honest to criticize me instead of "gassin me up"( as
in swelled head, ego etc.) but still should I have said "That shows
what you know dance music esp. house and its variations, is repetitive
hence the ecstatic trance it induces. " Or is she right should this
music ,properly done, shift and move should Iaim higher or should i say
"puff daddy" and ignore her. I am aware that trip hop and jungle tends
to have "movements' and segues esp Mowax but not always even then a
mowax movement can go on in one groove for 3 mins at a time before the
drums drop out and the weird pads come in ...
What do you think
