Donovan was my roomate for a few months last year (when he was
considering re-locating here in the big shitty) and did a lot of work in
the NYC area, but he couldn't manage to make a good enough living here
(promoters just don't pay all that well if you're not SUPER famous) and
they are also just too cheap in general to pay for a visualist of
Donovan's caliber (it's one thing to pay someone to bring down a slie
projector and a video projector, set them up and just let them run, but
you've got to pay more for live mixing of films and slides, it's just
really hard work, not to mention expensive and difficult to haul all the
gear needed)...

He came through once with the Dubtribe tour and that was nice and it is
possible that he might get booked for some extremely large rave-type
events, but I kind of doubt that you'll be able to catch him on this
coast until promoters start treating DJs and Visualists right, and pay
us what we deserve... (the European and Japanese DJs on this list would
be appalled at what WELL KNOWN local DJs get paid in NYC, you'd be
surprised how many of us have to keep day jobs just to stay afloat.) I
for one am trying to find a new city to locate to next year (I've got EC
citizenship so any european suggestions are welcome as well)

peace,
