While we're talking about this Nu-soul stuff, I have to say that Adriana
Evans' CD has hardly been out of my CD player since I bought it last week.
I'd heard "Seeing is believing" and loved it, but there were some less than
100% positive comments here about the LP, so I was a little wary of handing
over 15 quid.

It's probably sacrilege to say it, but I think I like this one better than
Baduizm (which is fabulous nonetheless.) Evan's LP does do some extensive
uncredited borrowing from other peoples work though. "I'll be there", for
instance, is so uncannily like Teena Marie's "Deja Vu" that I'd be
surprised if Rick James wasn't consulting his lawyer, though the newer
track has the benefit of not being a bunch of nonsense about reincarnation.
"Say You Won't" nicks a bit of Aretha's "Day Dreaming". Minnie Riperton and
Roy Ayers seems to be an influence as well, though if anything's been
directly borrowed it's less noticable. On the other hand, it all sounds
fantastic - it's got that kind of 70's soul vibe that I really go for,
without really trying to sound retro in terms of production and
instrumentation.
