i have to say i like the new portishead a lot. it really affected me in
the same way that "dummy" did: it's something completely new. i think
they really put to rest their "competitors" whatever that means.
overall, it's more like the work from the "theme to k.a.d.m":
methodical, precise, distorted to the utmost. i wasn't sold on
"cowboys", but from then on, it's a monster. it's also a lot more
complex, with the individual instruments (piano,organ, guitar) coming
out more in the mix.
also picked up bjork's new one today; it didn't strike me in the same
way that post and debut did (didn't care too much for telegram). it's
interesting tho', almost more on the autechre "how much pain are you
willing to stand in your music" side in parts, but with her obvious pop
sensibilities. i think it'll gro on me. c.
