NOTES & COMMENTS ---------------- -In my absence due to my attendence of the Jamiroquai show on Saturday night, my understudy (?) Chris did the show this weekend. He's totally capable of doing a great show, and he even has tons of vinyl I drool over.

-I was moderately impressed with Jamiroquai. They sounded pretty good live, surprising since every other show I've seen at that venue has been drowned out by horrific echo or bad EQ-ing. I would've enjoyed it more had it not been like 110 degrees with no air circulation. I may have been inclined to have stuck around for the encore.

-Incidental note: great review of the new EPMD LP by our good friend Skiz at WordSound. I totally agree, and now I don't feel like I'm the only one that felt a little disappointed. Nonetheless, Def Squad is still great.

COMING SOON -This Wednesday, social critic and author Kevin Powell will speak about his life and the release of his new book _Keepin'_It_Real_ on the UGA campus at the Tate Center's Georgia Hall on October 8, 7:30 PM. Tix are $1/$3 for non-students.

-Belgium's very own Hooverphonic will be opening for Fiona Apple (ugh) as she plays at the Classic Center (Athens) on October 7. -WUOG is working on a live interview with Hooverphonic scheduled for the day of the show (and I might be the one to do it!). Stay tuned for more details.

-Groove Collective will be performing at The Variety Playhouse (Atlanta) on October 9. Don't miss this one; they NEVER plow through the south EVER.

-As part of the annual homecoming festivites, the University Union is proud to present the B-52s with special guests at Stegeman Colliseum (on the UGA campus) on Friday, October 24, 8 PM. Tickets are pretty inexpensive for students ($10/$15) and a limited number of 1000 tix are available through big-dollar scam-artists Ticketmaster.

-The legendary Grover Washington, Jr. will be doing his fusion jazz thing at the Variety Playhouse (Atlanta) on October 24. -After seeing Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, and George Benson doing a cover of "Mr. Magic," I KNOW that this show is gonna be GREAT! -Unfortunately for me, being the secretary of the Univ. Union, I am obligated to work at the B-52s show. So, everyone going to see Grover, HAVE A GREAT TIME.

-The Deep Concentration Tour, a show jam-packed with the artists, namely the X-Ecutioners/P-nutButter Wolf/Cut Chemist, featured on OM Records exemplary compilation of the same name will be blowing up the spot here in Atlanta on October 25. -Word to Jazzbo and CK Smart. Maybe I'll see you there.

-Word around Atlanta is that Del the Funkee Homosapien will be playing Atlanta soon with perhaps other members of the Hieroglyphics Crew. I'll know more in a couple weeks.
