whheww.. always have loved the tracks here & there on compilations that i
have in my collection by journeyman. and this full album release on ntone
lives up to every expectation i have had for him.. & more.

journeyman _national hijinx_
ntone cd24
http://www.obsolete.com/pipe/

track listing:
-national hijinx
-national hijinx part 2 (mr. swanks menstore)
-rusty beats
-spy
-50cc (full service history)
-tuft er
-sloath
-eugolana box
-sonny
-biscuts
-the darg frog

the album starts out very quietly for the first minute or so, slowly
building up.. and the title track "national hijinx" is a sample lovers
dream. beautiful beats filled with complementary samples of "mr. swanks
menstore".. almost sounds to me that these may be from the same source
that amon tobin used for one of his tracks.. tobin used something like
"mr. downtempo, thank you, thank you very much.." anyone happen to know
this source?

& with track 3, "rusty beats" journeymen breaks to a hard beat and brings
on the groove.. at the moment, one of my favorite tracks on the album.. i
think its mainly because it jump starts the album from the near atmospheric
"partyscene" imagery of "national hijinix part one and two" to the wicked
beat d'n'b/mental tweakin'/dementia chill of the rest of the album..

track four "spy".. comes back to the more chill side of journeyman.
gorgeous rhythmn with an accompanying female vocal. an almost "dead can
dance" sounding chorus by the woman. great mixture of mellow beats,
unrecognizable background samples and the woman's soothing voice...

i could go on track by track but there is no need. GO BUY THIS ALBUM!!!
all 65 minutes are pure bliss! fits in my mind as one of the best albums
of the year. an album that does it all.. chillin' grooves and wicked get
up & move the booty tracks.. all intermixed with great samplage. i'm
loving how he's going from wacked shit to beautiful rythmms with acoutical
guitar and all... what more can you ask for??

okay.. okay.. you could have someone feeding you chocolate coated
strawberries while your ears are treated to the wild anthems of the new
journeyman...

this album has a great variety that won't leave you bored or knowing what's
coming next.. going from wicked wacked beats to mellow chill soundscapes
with a very demented feel. a classic flavor of the ntone label.

(i think the lack of "predictability" is a huge factor in my positive
review of this album, i have gotten to a point where i know where most
music is going and what they are going to do before the beats actually
change. thus boredom sets in. this journeyman album has kept me guessing
and therefore it has been a great musical interaction.)

anyways... the new journeyman deserves heavy props. have i done a good job?

hheheheheheheheh.. peace all. enjoy your beatz..
