I don't really care that much about Jamiroquai, but since it's the big issue
on the list I had to chime in. What is annoying me is that so many people
try to dismiss the band or rag on them because they are not "original" or
they sound like someone else in particular (SW), but I think that for AJ
listeners and basically any other type of music fan also this is a moot
point by now. Noone is doing anything totally original these days because it
has all been done. Everyone is influenced heavily by someone else. The only
real new stuff is by the people who are trying to explore new realms in
offensiveness, and even that has all been done pretty much too.

The important thing is do they sound good and does it make you feel good to
hear it. If so then find out who they sound like and go check them out too.
I actually don't really like J-quai that much because their overall sound
doesn't appeal to me that much, but I can't really explain why. Something
about the rhythm and the pace I guess. Despite the bass player's technical
prowess, listening to him just doesn't make me want to dance. And the singer
sounds boring once I get halfway thru a CD. I do actually think though that
when you put the whole band together the sound that you get does have a
distinctness and a newness to it. But my point is this is not as important
as wether or not it grooves.
