the 'reewind" thing is a jungle thing that has roots in jamaican culture.
i was listening to an old reggae/early dancehall record my uni library
had. it was recorded live at a 'dance' and the rewind was in full effect
there. yeah - its now become a mainstay of uk parties (and to a lesser
extent US--NYC does it big time).

you can say all the UK folks were trying to act like jamaican's just the
same. everything is for the taking...hip-hop and postmodernism made it
permissable :) i was shocked to be watching PBs and hear that "groovy"
and "far out" and even the word "beat' were black slang back in the 30's.

on the real though - i thought tc islam was one of the most competant mc's
i've seen... along with mc dynamite and mc GQ.
