Parveen's heart-rending three-octave range
transmits a sublime expression of romantic
and spiritual love.

Blending Western rock with Sindhi, Punjabi
and qawwali music, Junoon is shaking up
South Asia with a passion for modern invention.

Badar Ali Khan, Nusrat's young cousin,
reinvigorates the 700 year-old qawwali tradition
with intoxicating and ecstatic devotional music.

This concert is the final Noo Yawk event
to commemorate Pakistan's Golden Jubilee
and honors the dear departed legend,
Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

"Qawwali: The Legacy of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan"

Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufi sect
of Islam, is characterized by dazzling vocal
improvisations designed to induce religious ecstasy.

Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the world's
most recognized qawwali performer until
his death last August.

Robert Browning of the World Music Institute
will moderate a discussion on the history
and evolution of qawwali as well as
issues of presenting devotional music
in religious vs. secular environments.
