Listening to the muzak before purchase is the ONLY way. Personally,
there is so much schlitz to buy that I only get what I really believe
in. And even then I can't pick up everything.

God knows I'd pick up the entire Blue Note Conisseur (spellig on dis?)
series if I had the cash. Lee Morgan back in the day...100 proof, ditto
for Hank Mobley. Studio 1 is wicked for old skool ska, rocksteady,
reggae, and dub. Also, for dub, Blood and Fire has been flawless since
their onset (thanks to JA guru Steve Barrow, who finally published a
book on the music).

I thinks its easier for reissues to be trustworthy because (hopefully,
that is) the people putting it together know the deal and put out the
real. New labels, especially dance labels, are a bit more sporatic cos
they're dealing with new beatz in the real time. Ninja Tune, Mo'Wax,
Pork, ect. that peeps have mentioned are damn solid--but not leak
proof--it really depends on your personal tastes. And your bank
account. (Can DJ's get paid a bit more, pleeze!? Imports are friggin
expensive!) But lets not forget the states...Rawkus and Fondle 'Em are
excellent hip hop labels, Ubiquity/Luv N' Haight/Cubop has 'bags of
goodies'. Oh, and I like DHR out of Germany, but I like anything raw
and retarded (ala Roxanne Shante).
