Hi y'all,

Just wanted to mention a new release that I just picked up that I'm all
excited about. The self-titled debut album from Sydney group _Moonrock_ is
well worth picking up if you can get your hands on it (released on Creative
Vibes label, fine purveyors of many funky things from around these
parts...). This album is just some beautiful instrumental hip hop. Aside
from one tune where Sleeping Monk drops some slick rhymes, and another
featuring some nice Ivo vocals, the album creates its spacey moods without
the assistance of voices (other than those that are sampled along the
way...). The beats are funky and varied, and the layers of
samples/scratches/etc are really *soulfully* constructed. It sounds like a
lot of care went in to making sure the tunes are all rewarding for the
listener, not just simple tracks searching for a rhyme (or reason). Check
it out! [For those who might be interested, Moonrock is Ill Pickl and The
Katalyst, Ill Pickyl being the man responsible for the lushious beats of
the Easybass crew's tapes that floated around Sydney a couple of years
back]
