well, i know its off topic. but i know there's a lot of folks on this list with recording experience.

i'd appreciate some back channelled responses so i'm not nailed for filling the list with off-topic threads.. thanks in advance...

MY PROJECT:
i'm interested in recording my grandfather's conversation with me while i take photographic portraits of him. the end result of the recording will be used in a gallery. i plan to edit the tapes and create a looped tape of stories and conversation that can play in the background during the exhibit.

MY DILEMA:
i have no clue how to go about achieving a good enough quality recording. i'm doubting the ability of the little micro-cassette recorders one can pick up at good guys, etc. will that work sufficiently for recording conversation? with a mic?

there won't be any distracting background noize in the environment.

fyi: my grandfather has a pretty deep bass voice.

should i be looking for a place to rent audio equipment? anyone recommend someplace in the east bay or even preferably sonoma county? (grandpa lives in santa rosa)

i would greatly appreciate some feedback on this.
i do not need cd quality sound by any means. tho i guess it would be nice in the long run.
i was figuring it would be easier to do it all on tape.

thanks in advance for any and all advice... :-)
