As I've only gotten into hip-hop deeply in the last few years, I've found
tons of great stuff going on in the here & now.

Mike Ladd _Easy Listening 4 Armageddon_: unbelievable. Album of the fin de
siècle. Lay not your mattress atop this 'un.

New Kingdom _Paradise Don't Come Cheap_: hip-hop that tips its hat to
Captain Beefheart & the Butthole Surfers (not sure if those names'll have
any clout hereabouts, but whatever, it's *awesome* hip-hop). Also great is
their '93 album _Heavy Load_.

_Tical_ album, & the Killarmy disc I just got is pretty wicked too. And
about 1/3 of _Wu-Tang Forever_ is nearly all that. Overrated? Sure.

Prince Paul's _Psychoanalysis: What is It?_ is a deeply twisted brainbomb.
Check the Miami Bass parody cut, & the Too Short lampoon (the whole thing's
basically a black-comedic parody of various hip-hop stylings).

I'm quite fond of DJ Muggs' _Soul Assassins_ comp, which caries the spirit
of Cypress into the deeper paranoia of the late 90's. Perhaps the finest
cut offa that one is Wyclef Jean's "John 3:16", which bring me to

Wyclef Jean's _The Carnival_. Just an excellent melodic hip-hop record, no
excuses. He goes live & mixes it up w/excellent french-haitian reggae-folk
numbers near the end.

I'm still pretty fresh to the genre-- my old skool "wanted" list includes
everything from the NWA & the Geto Boys first to the entire Tribe Called
Quest discography-- but I for one sure feel a pulse!
