Kind of interesting to see that the people who responded to this thread are
all ole skool listers....

In a general response to all of the discussion about commercialism and
artists publishing rights, etc... I'm not saying that a law should be
passed, not by any means. But I am saying that people should stand up and
be heard, or at least stop spending their hard earned money on products
coming from companies like the Gap, Banana Republic, VW and Burger King.
The fact that they use hip music is not because they want to please your
ears for twenty seconds by any means. They want your money. They want you
to become hypnotized and always remember their brand. Branding is an
industry. Marketing is a global enterprise. And I think it needs to stop.
It's insulting and it's just wrong, as far as I'm concerned.

As far as artists selling their songs to companies, well, the songs are
(usually) theirs to sell. That's bound to happen, i suppose. I'm not about
playa-hating the artists. They should stop and try and recognize what the
ramifications of their actions entail before they sign on the dotted line,
but it's the companies that wave the fat checks that need to bear the brunt
of the blame. Them and the consumers of said products. If anyone on this
list or anyone you know bought a VW Beetle because they heard the Orb in
the commercials, i wish to personally meet that person so I can kick
his/her ass.

wEll, I've ranted enough for today. Sorry if I've wasted any bandwidth or
gone off topic.
