hi there,

What'sup?
That Vadim review is a bit on the extreme side, I mean is the album
actually that bad? Personally I don't think so.
This is by far the most commercial release from Mowax yet and I'm sure
there'll be a single or 2 out of it (lonely soul) and some of the tunes
may well end up being used for future commercials (nursery rhyme) but
hey! so what?

Personally i dont care as long as the musics good and it this case it
is. Theres plenty of dope beats, fresh samples and great songs on this
album. Granted there's been an awful lot of hype about it prior to its
release but like what did people really expect?
If you like Shadows solo stuff you'll like this. Lots of it reminded me
of the mood on the 'What does your soul look like' EP. Lavelle has fck
all to do with the actual programming/instrumentation of these songs but
I guess he's responsible for most of the colaborations here and if it
wasn't for him this album wouldn't be half as unique.

So, with the exception of the ballbreaker track (which becomes more &
more annoying with every listen!), I think its a top album.

checkitout,
gerry

Subject: Vadim's 2 cents on UNKLE

here's a question from an interview a local music magazine here in
Melbourne, Australia did with DJ Vadim coinciding with his visit here
for
the Ninja Tune World Tour. what do you guys think of this??

Q: What is the wackest record you've heard of late?

Vadim: "One record that I do feel very strongly about as being an
embarrasment, an abomination, an insult to intelligence is the new UNKLE
LP. I cannot believe the audacity to call this a "serious classic" in
the
press release. Shadow's production sounds like he has his head up Jimmy
Page's arse. Not original, trying too hard to sound progressive. Yet as
I
buy a lot of progressive from dealers, this LP is a laughing matter. The
quality of vocals added is poor, the concept terrible.....However, the
packaging is wicked, fresh, dope. Because of this; because of Lavelle
and
Shadow; because they have spent a reputed 3 million pounds recording the
LP; because of the huge promotion they are doing; because of the UNKLE
toys you can buy, the LP is going to sell bucketloads. It won't sell -
or
be remembered - because of the music. Now this is common for major
labels,
but for underground ones it is not. This will lead to the floodgates to
open on corporate bullshit workings in the underground and that is why I
think Mo Wax sucks in '98 and why (Psyence Fiction) is the worst LP
ever.
It will probably become a cult turkey record now!"
