** WHAT'S NEW IN INDIE ROCK **
==============================
** Label of the Month - SYMPATHY FOR THE RECORD INDUSTRY
Long Gone John (the selfÐproclaimed "AntiÐMogul") is the gutsy man behind this eccentric label. Long Gone John has been a force on the DIY scene, operating with barely legal precision since 1998! SFRI's goal is to get you to help them to bring western civilization (and possibly the whole stinking world) to its proverbial knees. Long Gone John's catalog is a work of art. He has released artists such as April March ,'68 Comeback, Hole, El Vez, Roky Erickson,Experimental Audio Research,The Geraldine Fibbers, Gun Club, The Honeymoon Killers, Rocket From The Crypt, Southern Culture On The Skids, and Spacemen 3, just to name a few. One has to ask. . . "John, how did you do it???" Here at CDuctive we preserve, produce and protect the secretive world of indie music.

** Exclusive Pre-Releases! - K RECORDS
Enemy Mine Ð What happens when Mike Kuna from Godheadsilo gets together with Zak Sally from Low? You get Enemy Mine. Low are infamous for their faint, whisperÐlike style and Godheadsilo are legendary for their loud, sonic assaults. Enemy Mind is an entirely new musical beast, taking inspiration from both bands but developing a style all its own. Recorded by Calvin Johnson at Dub Narcotic Studios, these tracks won't be released for a while. For now, they're available as exclusive preÐreleases ONLY AT CDUCTIVE.&nbsp

** Exclusive Pre-Releases! - WHICH? RECORDS
Brian Jonestown Massacre Ð Later this year, Which? Records will be releasing an EP from the much talked about Brian Jonestown Massacre. CDuctive is more than pleased to offer you a preview of what's to come. We're making one track from the forthcoming EP available to you now. This track is so new it hasn't even been named, and it's available ONLY AT CDUCTIVE.

** Exclusive Pre-Releases! - JETSET RECORDS
Songs for the Jetset, Vol. 2 Ð Have a groovy day while listing to "Songs for the Jetset Vol 2." This is a 15 song sampler of spaceÐage melodies melded with early psychedelia Ð kinda like French New Wave. Slated for release in February, the record includes tracks by Wallpaper, Loveletters, Milky, and Death By Chocolate. . . who serves up a detailed recipe for a potion to cause a commotion. Be the coolest kid on the block by owning these tracks before their street release.

** Exclusive Pre-Releases! - TIM/KERR RECORDS
Daniel Johnston Ð Daniel Johnston is a cult hero. He's the alternative song writer's song writer. Johnston has recorded with or has been covered by Mary Lou Lord, Sonic Youth, Jad Fair, Kramer, Yo La Tengo and many others. Battling mental illness for his entire life, Johnston was institutionalized briefly in the midÐ80's for failing to take his medication. Best known for selling homeÐmade tapes in Austin, TX, Daniel loves to sing about Casper The Friendly Ghost, Captain America and his speedy Motorcycle. Here, Tim/Kerr offers 2 unbelievably beautiful never ever released tracks just for CDuctive. Currently Tim/Kerr is working on a Daniel Johnston fullÐlength CD that will be out in 1999. We'll keep you posted.

** More New Music! - TAR HUT RECORDS
Tar Hut is committed to bringing you the best possible music Ð alt.country, power pop, rock Ð they love it all. While Tar Hut doesn't confine themselves to roots rock, they truly believe that the pure, honest form of rootsÐrock (the fusion of country and rock) is the best thing to happen to the music business in a long time. Tar Hut believes in the Americana format and what it represents Ð music first, everything else later.

** More New Music! - YASSABA RECORDS
Yassaba started life in 1994 as a band management company in London. Frustrated at the time by the established labels' obsession with "Brit Pop", Yassaba saw the opportunity to set up shop as a label and back bands that were producing forwardÐthinking, innovative music. The label has been such a success that the management side of things has been passed on to trusted colleagues, and the Yassaba crew focuses 100% on releasing records.

What does Yassaba mean? Nothing! It's a word that was made up simply to be remembered. Most people do Ð let's hope you do too!

** More New Music! - SAFE HOUSE RECORDS
Lunachicks Ð Do these girls really need an introduction? Clever, fun and punk all rolled up into one.

** More New Music! - ROYALTY RECORDS
Two Man Advantage Ð Known for their legendary live performances in hockey gear, Royalty Records is proud to release the debut from Two Man Advantage entitled "Drafted". This punk outfit is entirely dedicated to their selfÐproclaimed four passions: hockey, punk rock, beer and friendship.

** More New Music! - SHIMMY DISC RECORDS
King Missile Ð John S. Hall is the poet ranter front man of King Missile (Dog Fly Religion), King Missile and King Missile III. The band was founded in the 80's, with Kramer as band member and coÐproducer. They went on to release a few records on Atlantic, and then released the killer hit "Detachable Penis". King Missile III continues to put forth the unique visions of John S. Hall. Here are 6 classic King Missile tracks and 3 brand new tracks from the new King Missile III CD entitled Failure.

Milksop Holly Ð Mara Flynn and Kramer, alone with two acoustic guitars and voices, will make your head spin. With the voice of an angel and the lyrics of a devil.

Drazy Hoops Ð Drazy Hoops is streamlined by elegant Kramer production, with tasty layers of sound and string arrangements. Mr. Hoops' smooth, low vocals are intimate and hypnotic. An accomplished backing band [guitarist Sean Eden (Luna), acoustic bassist Kim Clarke (Defunct), drummer David Licht, keyboardist Kramer, violist Ron Lawrence and cellist Clay Ruede] elucidate Drazy Hoop's lyrical revelations about everyday life and the self. Drazy Hoops kicks out catchy tunes that will keep you happy in traffic or create a romantic atmosphere.

The Blue Whale Ð The Blue Whale ÐÐ masterÐminded by a man known only as Mars ÐÐ musically creates a postmodern cut and paste of rockÐnÐroll idioms both recent (structured noise, jungle beats, computer wizardry) and classic (Beatles, heavy psych). Maybe they just sound like a modern day Japanese Pink Floyd. Laced with elements of various musical camps, this is fresh, fun music for the nonÐtraditionalist.

** More New Music! - K RECORDS
Satisfact Ð K Records is proud to release Satisfact's third fullÐlength release entitled The Third Meeting at the Third Counter. Satisfact echoes the soul of Joy Division and the immediate impact of Fugazi by incorporating twisted, screeching guitars and melding it with psychedelic synthesizers.

** More New Music! - TURNBUCKLE RECORDS
Be/Non Ð Be/Non are braced to take their sonic pseudoÐsymphonies into a third dimensional reality any normal human being can feel and enjoy Ð provided you live in the path of the Be/Non juggernaut. Stephen Drozd from the Flaming Lips is the special guest on the new Be/Non EP.

Solar Coaster Ð Solar Coaster's sound may be described as wallÐofÐguitar driven songs about the wonder, humor and desperation of the transient spectacle of life. Their sound is defined by its contrast and lack of contention between accelerated and distant instrumentation and floating melodies and overtones. The hallmark sound of Solar Coaster is the unusual variety of Silvertone guitars and the rapidÐfire chords the band produces on them. Ghostly, often slower paced vocals add a more spacious and farÐoff dimension as the music rushes below.

** More New Music! - THICK RECORDS
Thick Records Ð THICK records HATES you. That's right, they think you're a bunch of jaded fools with nothing better to do than hang out in "cyberspace" all day looking for obscure and eclectic music. The only reason they humor you and let you tag along is simply the desire to get in your sister's pants.

But at least we're honest and so is our music. Based in Chicago, and acclaimed world wideÐ we have the dubious honor of the label that supplied music to the FBI in order to lure David Koresh and his Waco wackos out of their cozy little compound way back in '93. With a diverse and disparate roster of records ranging from punk and emo, to ska and hardcore, the Blue Meanies to Truly, The Cows to Season To Risk and new records coming from The Five Deadly Venoms, Hagfish, Honky, Ironboss, and an assortment of other bands you pretend to knowÐÐour loudspeakers are ready to give it another shot. Smut, noise and contempt define the THICK Records ideal: www.thickrecords.com gets you a free catalog and stickers. Oh boy.

** More New Music! - Season To Risk
Here it is kids, the new Season To Risk (well really a rare retrospective ranging from 1992Ð1997). This double CD includes both S2R releases plus every 7"single and compilation track we could find.

** More New Music! - LOOKOUT!
The Donnas - Punk rock, Riot Grrrrl, the real deal. Hot, Hot, Hot!

HiÐFives - Good looking, smart power pop. Fun, Fun, Fun!

Smugglers - Unbelievable live, this band knows how to put out. Punk, punk, PUNK!

** WHAT'S NEW IN DANCE/ELECTRONIC **
====================================
** Label of the Month - BEATSERVICE RECORDS
With the recently passing winter solstice, CDuctive brings you a gem from the furthest depths of the Arctic Ð we proudly introduce Beatservice Records from Tromso, Norway.

Tromso is a small city in the north of Norway, and it served as the important incubator for the development of the house and techno scene in that country. Since 1989, artists from Tromso such as Biosphere, Mental Overdrive, Ismistik, Adena Cycle, Y.B.U, Open Skies, Alan™a, Those Norwegians, and Drum Island have released numerous records on various European labels like SSR, R&S, Djax, Reinforced, Deconstruction and Paper.

In 1994, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his Beatservice Radio program, Vidar Hanssen solicited demos from Tromso artists in order to release a commemorative compilation entitled the TOS.CD Ð the intention was to showcase the plethora of talent in the Tromso electronic music scene. So overwhelming was the response and the quality of the submissions that Hanssen took it as his mission to provide an outlet for these talented artists. Thus, Beatservice Records was born.

Since then, the label has released an impressive selection of experimental electronic and ambient releases by artists such as Adena Cycle, Sternklang, Motion Control, ElectripÐC, and many others. Just last month, Information was nominated for the Spellemannsprisen, which is the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Beatservice is certainly a label to watch, and we urge you to explore this brilliant electronic output from way up North.

**Exclusive Pre-Releases! - ADELPHOI RECORDS
Menage is a LondonÐbased group made up of Shanks, Steve Swindells, and Mary Pearce. Shanks is a 29ÐyearÐold DJ, journalist, photographer and graphic designer. Steve Swindells is (a youthful!) 45ÐyrÐold who is a jack of all trades and a master of many: songwriter, musician, club promoter, Attitude Interactive editor and Time Out journalist. Mary Pearce's voice speaks for itself. She has just become Courtney Pine's lead vocalist! We have their first track available as a worldwide exclusive preÐrelease. "Anywhere (you want to go)" is available to selected DJs promo as an underground teaser. It's already tearing up dancefloors across the UK and will be released in late February. You can be one of the first to own it, by picking it here at CDuctive!

**Exclusive Pre-Releases! - MRK RECORDS
Marina, who reins our Eurodance section, is back with another brand new release entitled "Sisters are Doin' it for Themselves". A duet with Hazell Dean, "Sisters" won't be released until the end of the month. We have a selection of remixes available for exclusive preÐrelease only at CDuctive. Check 'em out.

** More New Music! - PAT BOONE!!!
CDuctive extends the warmest of welcomes to a small label destined for future greatness. . . the one, the only Pat Boone!!! Run with an iron fist and a heart of gold by industry mogul Andrew "Plug" Lazonby, Pat Boone!!! has several top notch releases to its credit. Pat Boone!!!, through its primary artist Ping Body, is committed to furthering the cause of assÐjacking spazzÐfunk music. A quick listen to Ping Body's tracks will make sense of it all. Also be sure to check out tracks from Radio Equator and Mullen & Buss.

** More New Music! - NEWDOG RECORDS
Newdog is a San Francisco Bay Area label specializing in "evolutionary electronic" music. Its output is "evolutionary" because it combines influences from many diverse styles of music, refusing to be neatly pigeonÐholed. Some of Newdog's artists, like Jhno, actually use genetic algorithms in the creation of their music. Can music contribute to the evolution of a species? Newdog thinks so. Perhaps the music press does too. Referring to the label's first artist, Dogon, Alternative Press notes "Dogon have a higher calling and it's evident on every cut", while Billboard declares "Dogon produces a disarming brand of music. . . simultaneously seductive and serene." Similar accolades shower Newdog's other artists Jhno and Spool. Check them out!

** More New Music! - ADELPHOI
Adelphoi is a slamming LondonÐbased label releasing records across a variety of styles, and with a particular gift in the styles of house and garage. In our first of several installments, look for tracks from master producer Cricco Castelli, U.S. Collective, Melissa Bell, Karen Ramirez, Menage, and Angie Brown. Check out the exclusive preÐreleases from Menage in our PreÐRelease section

** More New Music! - CUP OF TEA
From one of a handful of labels that gave the world the much talked about "Bristol Sound" come some excellent new releases. First up is Fruitloop and their wonderfully titled fullÐlength "To Be or Not To Be Bop Alula". With a multitude of influences and a selfÐdescribed style of "spontaneous combustion in music", Fruitloop serve up a rich breakbeat bonanza peppered samples from all eras of pop music. Fans of Fused and Bruised, The Freestylers, or Botchit & Scarper need apply. Next up is Slick Sixty and their "Nibs and Nabs" album. The record features "Hilary, Last of the Pool Sharks", a track which was Music Week's "Beats Tune of the Month" and scored top marks in leading UK daily The Guardian! Last up is Sissi, and their new single "Look at Me". Sissi are Tammy Payne (who's worked with Denise Williams and Smith and Mighty) and Jim Barr (best known as Portishead's live bass player). Together, they're magic. We strongly recommend this record.

** More New Music! - MILK RECORDINGS
Cup of Tea's alter ego serves up some fresh, pasteurized, but certainly not homogenized new releases. Mr. Neveux is back with his debut fullÐlength entitled "Tuba". Called "unmissable" by Sleazenation and "brilliant, rife with MoWax undertones" by Epigram Magazine, this record has been in heavy rotation at the CDuctive HQ.Also new is the album from Jazz Spanky and the Sound Approach. Their music fuses jazzy tinges with electronics and scolding breakbeats. Innovative, intelligent, and scientifically cool, Jazz Spanky are back with a sound to break electronic barriers.

** More New Music! - ASPHODEL/SOMBIENT
A favorite among CDuctive fans, Asphodel and sister imprint Sombient have made available a large portion of their back catalog. To round out our strong offering from artists like DJ Spooky, XÐecutioners, Mix Master Mike, and others, we now bring you over 150 new tracks. On Asphodel, check out the ambient genius of Ulf Langheinrich, Francis Dhomont, and Datacide, as well as illbient master Byzar. For a real treat, check out Wonderful World of Joey's twisted Nativity scene tribute to Guns 'n' Roses with his loungey track "What Sweet Child O'Mine is This". On Sombient, look for established ambient artists Rhythm & Noise, Biosphere, Steve Roach, Robert Fripp, and a whole host of others.

** More New Music! - NINJA TUNE / NTONE
Joining Asphodel in providing you with a greater selection of fine releases comes another of CDuctive's favorite labels, the inimitable Ninja Tune. This month we're making available a bunch of tracks from the entire roster of Ninja artists.
