Let's count dimbos
who'll shell out greenbacks
to ELEVATE ™
or pretend that they
HAVE A DREAM ™
this weekend.

Since when did significant holidays
become pockmarked by such occasions ?

We should observe the Death of * the * Dream
with observance of the passing of
the Queen of the Yippies, Anita Hoffman.

Born Anita Kushner in New York,
Anita was married to Abbie Hoffman,
prankster extraordinaire
and founder of the Yippies
aka the Youth International Party.

In one prank the Yippies tried to disrupt
the New York Stock Exchange
by throwing dollar bills onto the trading floor.
But they didn't have enough money
to make much of an impression.
Anita started to set light to the money instead,
and it was the pictures of the immolation of the dollar
that were on the front pages the next day.

When Abbie proposed to encircle the Pentagon
with anti-war protestors Anita said that
they should make the building levitate,
then let it crash to the ground.
The Pentagon managed to survive the mass chants
of "OM," but millions of Americans in the era
of flying saucers would not have been
totally surprised if it had crumpled.

Anita died on December 27th at the age of 56.

In remembrance of Anita
and other milestones of the generation,
Yvonne.

Hermit Thrushes are elusive
and tend to drift quietly
as we are doing now
( I too consider myself a demented drifter )
