Indeed ... Shadow is pretty infamous ... remember the rumor that they named
themselves 'Shadow' to spite Mr. Josh Davis who wouldn't license his DJ
Shadow songs or sign to Instinct (who owns Shadow Records) ... they instead
tried to infer a relationship with him ...

However , that is the record industry game ... Kruder + Dorfmeister's real
issue should be with the label that owns the original 'Conversions' set (an
Austrian label , methinks) ... they are the one responsible for
irresposible licensing , and they actually have every right to do so if the
release is still under term of license (which may be for perpetuity) ...
the orignal release was billed as a 'Kruder + Dorfmeister' release , so I
don't see why Shadow wouldn't or shouldn't do the same ...

I'm not defending Shadow's shoddy practices ... I know they will try to
promote this as a new recording (though it is only new to the US in issue)
and their reasons were to ride on the coattails of Studio K7's promotion of
"Sessions" ... however , K+D should go after the original label that issued
the recording , as they are the ones ultimately responsible ...

I actually had a problem with a label who shall remain nameless , who
wanted to issue a compilation of Q-Burns Abstract Message 12" material that
they licensed from the original labels , and they were going to release it
at the same time as my 'Feng Shui' album , thus sucking off Astralwerks'
promotion muscle for their release (without my consent) ... the only way I
could stop them was to buy the exclusive rights to that comp so that Eighth
Dimension would put it out instead ... that became "Ouevre" ...

Ladies and gentlemen , welcome to the record biz ...

Regards ,

Michael
