Alright, while on Thievery trashing mood, I have to tell you guys my
story. I've had two, very brief, yet significant encounters with these
people. My first one was when I drove almost 5 hours to see DJ Cam @
Their 18th St Lounge. When we got there, we were told that the club was
not open and it was a special night only for the staff. I tried to
explain the whole bit to the obnoxiously cool security guard and the only
thing he would say was:

"If you really want to see DJ Cam, he'll be in Boston tomorrow"

We stood there in disbelief and finally just walked away really bumbed
out. We stood in the corner to muster enough stamina to turn right back
around and drive another 5 hours back to school (Penn State). As we
stood there we saw a an older and overweight couple turned away. Almost
two minutes later a car packed full of trendy looking people drove up,
had a brief exchange and were promptly let in. Were they staff? Maybe,
but a better guess is that they had the "right look".

Story #2. While planning last semester's Spring Arts Festival @ Penn
State my job was to contact music agents to book bands for the main
stage. I contacted the 18th St Lounge and talked to Rob Garza. While
most jazz musicians I spoke to were very down to earth and eager to work,
he acted like he was doing me a favor by putting the phone to his ear. I
finally got enough negative vibes from him on the phone to realize that
we should take our money elsewhere...

I won't lie, I like and buy their music, but as people they're all about
fronting~ :~(
I remember that one http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com story a while back
too...
