Ronnie Spector

==============================

Ronnie Spector, the timeless paragon of girl-rock badassness, cut her
first record at 13 as the lead singer for the Ronettes. She went on to
fame and fortune with hits like "Baby I Love You" and "The Best Part of
Breaking Up," and won a Grammy for "Walking in the Rain." Her new album,

She Talks to Rainbows, is produced by Daniel Rey (White Zombie, the
Misfits) and Joey Ramone and is set for release on Sept. 14, 1999 on
Olympia, Washington-based label Kill Rock Stars. Download tracks here
and now to impress your friends! Not available in stores (yet).

Dub Narcotic Sound System meets the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
http://digital.cductive.com/artist/?arid=5769
==============================

Two of the biggest names in indie rock have collaborated to form one of
the longest-named bands in history: Dub Narcotic Sound System meets the
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The album is titled Sideways Soul and will
be released on K Records Sept. 14, 1999. Combining punk, funk and soul
into a fuzzed-out, mental mishmosh, DNSS meets JSBX will surely be one
of the most talked-about collabos on the indie scene this year. Check
out "Fudgy the Whale," a nine-plus minute opus from the upcoming
Sideways Soul.

The Top Dog:
Label of the Month
Eastern Conference Records
http://digital.cductive.com/label/?lid=10033&slid=1

Based in Milo Berger's (aka DJ Mighty Mi) Lexington Ave.
apartment/recording studio named after a phrase from the GZA song "Cold
World," Eastern Conference's Muthafuckin' Spot on Lexington has seen a
lot of action in the last few years. Berger and business partner/MC Eric

Meltzer (Mr. Eon) started Eastern Conference after graduating from
Boston University in 1994. The Philly natives have been friends since
3rd grade and officially began their love affair with hip-hop in their
first year of high school, when they performed in a talent show as the
Freshman 3. Since then, they've honed their skills as performers and
businessmen. Eastern Conference incorporated in September of 1996 and
soon after released its first single, "Hands On Experience," an ode to
masturbation featuring underground fixture Bobbito, El-P of Company Flow

and the duo of Berger and Meltzer, otherwise known as The High & Mighty.

The next EC releases were the Smut Peddlers "One by One" featuring Mr.
Eon tag-teaming with Cage, a notorious NY MC best known for having an
ongoing beef with Eminem, and Virginia-based MC Mad Skills' cover of
Slick Rick's "Lick the Balls." Upcoming EC projects include a Cage EP
and singles from Messiac Bay and the Weathermen, as well as The High &
Mighty's own debut full-length The High & Mighty's Home Field Advantage.

Crowned Glory:
Label of the Month:
Kill Rock Stars
http://digital.cductive.com/label/?lid=10057&slid=1

There are few labels so admired as Kill Rock Stars. Originally intended
to be a spoken word (or "wordcore") label, KRS has consistently
maintained its indie label status and stayed true to the punk ethic.
KRS, along with its founder and owner Slim Moon, have extended their
reach and do-it-yourself style into cyberspace by committing to Cductive

and our digital distribution. The KRS roster includes acts like
Sleater-Kinney , Unwound and Elliott Smith -three acts that have
superceded the label's cache and become critical and, in some cases,
commercial successes. There's much more to KRS than those three acts,
however. Newer acts are creating a new KRS paradigm. New Wave, Punk and
Noise intertwine and change shape as the newer KRS acts build on the
foundation the label has provided. Slim Moon still maintains his roots
in the spoken word. Moon plans to buoy the art form and invite
collaborators from a variety of genres. The KRS catalog already includes

a variety of spoken-word artists, and the label plans on signing more.
As a philosophy, spoken word could be applied to the entire Kill Rock
Stars roster: do what you will, express yourself and stay real. Olympia,

Washington serves as the headquarters of KRS, and the local scene still
plays a tremendous role in the development of the label. Bands from
nearby Portland, Seattle and Redmond nearly complete the label.
Attention to the northwest music scene allows KRS to never forget who
they are. It's certainly not the most perfect record label, but its
track record and devotion to creativity make it one of the more
outstanding, completely independent record labels in modern music.

Label of the Month:
Liquid
Sky
http://digital.cductive.com/label/?lid=10037&slid=2

Liquid Sky is the umbrella for four key labels in the jungle/electronic
underground: Jungle Sky , Home Entertainment , Tekhed and Liquid Sky
Music . Founded in 1994 by Brazilian ex-pat and man-about-town DJ Soul
Slinger , Liquid Sky's seeds were sown at a 1991 Limelight gig, where
Soul Slinger was thrown off the decks for playing breakbeats! Taking a
cue from this, Soul Slinger went on to found the infamous party NASA,
where he and co-jocks dB, DJ Ani , and Jason Jinx held down what is
easily the East Coast's most-famous and beloved weekly rave. Without a
doubt, NASA eventually went the way of manned moon exploration trips and

the rave bunnies found themselves temporarily homeless. That all changed

once the mission control of the scene, the Liquid Sky store, was opened.

Now firmly ensconced on Manhattan's Lafayette St., the Liquid Sky store
sells ultra-wide pants, alien t-shirts, messenger bags and even records
out of the back of the store. Liquid Sky and its imprint labels continue

to be a guiding light in the domestic drum 'n' bass scene, representing
the harder, more bizarre side of jungle, leaving the atmospheric
prettiness to the Brits. Artists on the Liquid Sky roster include Soul
Slinger, 1.8.7. , Yellow Note, DJ Wally , DJ Silver , the incomparable
Afrika Bambaata, the heroic A Guy Called Gerald, NY upstarts Ming & FS,
hometown favorites DJ Swingsett and DJ Spooky and illbient recluses
Ben Neill, We and Byzar.
