ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Taking the name of the world's horniest chimpanzee ought
to be enough to turn a few heads. But Bonobo certainly doesn't need that
kind of a gimmick. His debut album, ANIMAL MAGIC, is a downtempo
masterpiece, pure and simple. Instrumentally eclectic, with some achingly
beautiful melodies and lush arrangements, there is definitely SOME kind of
magic at work here. On the fledgling Tru Thoughts label out of Brighton,

The Weekend Starts Here: Resuming this Friday, and henceforth on every 1st
and 3rd Friday of the month, I'll be spinning the jazzadelic grooves during
Happy Hour (5-8:30pm) at Fuel, 44 So. Almaden Ave. in San Jose. No cover,
free munchies, and the world's BEST beer on tap. (Boont Amber, in case
you're wondering.) And if that's not enough to motivate you, this Friday
you might want to stick around for the late show, too: actress/musician
Eszter Balint ("Stranger Than Paradise") will be performing in support of
her debut album. (There IS a cover charge for the live music, though.)
