Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #28: The worst subjects

    Newsflash 2.08.2000

    Dear friends,

we're happy to bring you another phat info update about the K&S mobs latest
activity. So, to begin with the best - we're not the types who are saving
it for last: our autumn dj tour has developed with one more station. We'll
be playing at the fantastic Kontrapunkt club-night at Aquarius
(http://www.aquarius.hr/club.html) in Zagreb on 5. November. The regular
Sunday events are run by Eddy & Dus, two top guys who have been
successfully developing the nu jazz scene in that friendly Mediterranean
    city in the last year.

We are also thankful to Claus, the promoter of WUK in Vienna, who has
believed in us. With his help we start a series of events called Taste of
the East at this superb venue, where we present the best live acts and djs
of the Central and Eastern European scene in about every two months. On 30.
September our guests will be Yonderboi, the talented Hungarian boy with his
band and dZihan & Kamien from Vienna, whose album is one of our all time
    favourites.

This week the Hungarian music media has also "attacked" us without any
warning: Freee, the only Hungarian electronic music magazine did a long
interview with us, as well as the on-line music mag of the biggest
Hungarian program guide. It feels quite strange, because we have been
mostly ignored by the press. (Previously there were some short TV
interviews mostly on Z+, the Hungarian music channel, focusing on foreign
djs playing here, musical genres and a remix project, and Freee has been
including our top 10 in their dj toplist page in the last months).

This week's reading - about the man who first brought judo to England -
goes out to those who are feeling that they are getting old and useless.
    They are not!

"At 63, Gunji Koizumi is still the worst subject in London for the unlucky
thug to pick on on a dark Saturday night. Short, gracious in manner,
apparently totally inoffensive, he has at his command many hundred variants
of the throws, locks, strangling grips, blows or kicks on the vital nerve
centres, into which judo is divided; as well as the mystery of Katzu, the
art of reviving the victim from coma. At that, the victim is lucky for each
throw, if pressed to its logical conclusion as in Battle Judo, is designed
completely to disable or kill the aggressor."

Spotted in Picture Post (Hulton's National Weekly), 17. December, 1949.

    Be aware till next week!
