    *SMACK!!!!*

Phew. i feel better now. My heart rate is approaching
    normal again.

now that that's out of my system, I have nothing new
to say, but I shall proceed to pull several "what he
said"'s about the records on my shelf that have
recently nudged my quality of life up a few notches.

brazilian beats (that mr bongo comp)
oh my goodness, run don't walk and BUY THIS RECORD.
full of old and new stuff (i think..haven't finished
the statistical analysis of track release dates) but
it's the kind of record where you put on a song and
you can't skip through it, you just let it play, so
skimming through the thing for the first time takes 45
minutes. I can't say enough good things about this
record. thanks to all who suggested it.

bossa tres...jazz (are you seeing a pattern?)
um, why didn't i buy this before like everyone told me
to? this is a kinda chill comp of brazil-lovers from
"america do sul, do europa, do japao" as salome de
bahia points out at the beginning of the record.
there is some very pleasant, chill, meditative house
and bossa-like stuff. very soothing. and some
definite party rockers too. not life-altering, but
    highly recommended.

neon phusion - the future ain't the same...
    a life-affirming, life-changing event. run to the
    store.

incognito - no time like the future (lots of patterns
    this week ay?)
no brainer. so, so good. typically lush and soulful
with deep melodies. some tracks are a little
housey/synthy/wussy for my tastes but the standouts
make it more than worth it.

i also have a stack of Poeple, Laws of Motion, etc,
that I can't give you statistics on cuz they'r not in
front of me, but i am loving every jagged, oddly
placed beat and goofy vocal. more detail later, as
    time permits.

oh yeah, i also revisited Nu Yorica (the first one) on
soul jazz. holy shit. I forgot how much incredible
drum work was on that thing. I had also never spent
time with Eddie Palmieri's "Un Dia Bonito", a
gripping, sunrise-flavored suite which starts off
exremely deep and composed, then breaks into a jam
just after the point where you think you're going to
    fall over from emotional exhaustion.

also got monday michuru "optimista" and i'm so-so on
it. and i paid through the nose so i'm feeling like
an idiot. anyone want to buy or trade? it's very
nice, very vocal (she has an incredibly bendy,
disciplined voice and very soulful) but it's just a
little too r and b-ish or too soulish? not sure-- for
    my tastes.

ok, those are the highlights. obviously I am very
very happy to have these records in my life.

while i'm here, thanks to all who post playlists and
favorites lists. mark, your jazzadelica playlist is
required reading. how about every time you get a
record, just pick up an extra copy for me, and i'll
    pay you a finder's fee??? =D

    love,
    stephanie
"don't hate me because i'm beautiful!!!"
