Admittedly I'm biased, b/c it's a record I'm working press on - but you
might be into Suba's "Sao Paolo Confessions" coming out on Six Degrees out
of SF in February. Not entirely roots like the Brazilian Beats or some of
the Glucklich releases, but it's electronic with latin influences, tasteful
use of female vocals also. Suba was born in Yugoslavia, lived most of his
life in the Brazilian metropolis of Sao Paolo, and a week after the record
was completed he died in a random apartment fire. Sad story, amazing
record. Recommended for all you a/j types into the Jazzanova/K&D sound, the
single "Voce Gosta" is especially lush. Out Feb. 1st - Brock
