    i think you missed the point (maybe i did?). what i got out of this
    discussion was that labels are basically trying to convince artists (and the
    rest of the world) of the following...

    here is a little bit of visual basic i like to call the label grinder.
    please excuse my sillyness, i am but an online dork and have nothing better
    to do with my time but to download mass amounts of music, look at p*rn, and
    code havok creating hack applications that try to take over the world.

    (yes of course this is untrue and again sillyness, but i hope my point is
    understood. some of the world just gets catagorized because of the
    technology they make use)

    function promote(artist, label) as float

    dim mp3, label_profit, large_cashpot_for_label ' letting us know
                                                                    ' our variables

            mp3 = piracy ' which is just not the case as
                                            ' most of us know mp3s can also
                                            ' help small indy labels and
                                            ' indy artists by acting as the
                                            ' tool BIG MONEY is in place to
                                            ' provide. there are plenty of
                                            ' other uses, it would be
                                            ' pointless to go into here.

            do while (mp3 = piracy) ' artists and public are convinced
                                            ' labels are looking or their best
                                            ' interest and not just cash and
                                            ' secure position on the
                                            ' sales/promotions ladder

                    large_cashpot_for_label = large_cashpot_for_label + 10000

            loop

            label_profit = large_cashpot_for_label ' set the profit margin

            promote = label_profit ' return amount of
                                                                    ' promotion to calling
                                                                    ' routine
    end function

    thanks for putting up with my dork side (wait that is both sides),

    ;)

    so then how much is enough? they should be making half? sorry no sympathy.
    If you really love to make music and want to share then push it on your
    own....dont sign with a major label and then bitch later about how little
    you are getting. You took the easy way and so you shouldnt expect much.
