    all,

the basics: when he comes to your area, go see him.

the event was at shine in nyc, the latest home to giant step's weekly
series. i wasn't terribly impressed by the opening dj. too many songs i've
heard so many times before, too much slow slow house. the crowd wasn't
having it, they were there for the acid jazz, for sure.

when gilles came on round 12:30 (the event was 10-3)... a nice intro...
"space is the place" (indeed)... "it's monday night, i feel like i'm back
in london at 'that's how it is.'" (his weekly at bar rumba) nice mix of
nuyorican soul, a new one from 4hero (beautiful bass, as always), and a
nice remix of a song from one of the souljazz dynamite comps, and future
jazz and latin from who knows where. incredible selection. a kicking drum n
bass track (anyone know the name? he mentioned it will be _the song_ at
winter music conf. this year--maybe it's on talkin loud?), and beautiful
people dancing and sweating their asses off.

best night in nyc so far (two years on), and damn i wish i lived in london.

    steve

btw. he also brought along mc. earl zinger, from galliano, but he was very
light on the mic. he's the one that kept saying "sounds from the left."
gilles talked a little bit too... he always finds the right moments of a
    track to talk over.

bbtw. are his comps as good as the nights and the show? i've avoided them
because they have familiar/already purchased songs like da lata's "pra
manha," but maybe there are some other tracks that i must have and can't
    find elsewhere?
