    Heya Everyone,

It's a longer one than most weeks 'cause I've been crazy busy so this, in
fact, represents TWO WEEKS of the show. Sorry for the extra wordage...I
figure it's easier for you than if I sent two separate e-notes. As always,
    take care.

There were two 'PICKS OF THE WEEK' today. Montréal/UK based Interchill
Records is no stranger to releasing top-notch compilations, and in teaming
up with Japanese producer Makyo and his Dakini Records, Interchill has
brought Canada the stellar global ambient groover, SKY DANCING: NADA MASALA
VOL. 1. Featuring artists from Japan, Canada, the U.S. and parts of Europe,
Sky Dancing is a broad-ranging delight.

Toronto's NICK HOLDER is a very familiar name on Mental Chatter; with a
constant flow of releases on his own D.N.H. and on labels such as NRK and
K7, Nick is prolific beyond belief. In the past year, his house productions
have grown deeper, funkier, and increasingly mature. With his
soon-to-be-released and absolutely excellent "Black Action Committee 3" EP,
Nick is set to cause a not-so-quiet storm. All three songs are killer, but
his collaboration with Toronto spoken word artist (and CKLN programmer)
Jemini is especially making people stop, listen and dance. With its kickin'
beats and spot-on commentary relating to the murder of Amadou Diallo and
the subsequent acquittal of his murderers (NYC's boys in blue), the track
    is not to be missed.

'twas a busy busy show, with loads of giveaways and lots of brand new
releases. All three members of infamous and much adored British band SAINT
ETIENNE dropped by the studio to talk about their upcoming album, "Sound of
Water." I spoke with Sarah, Bob and Pete about their love of collecting
soul records and DJ'ing (Bob and Pete); things learnt as a solo artist
(Sarah); and how the three have remained a happy family in over a decade of
recording together - no small feat! They were nice as nice can be, and the
boys stuck around to drop a few of their favourite 7" soul singles.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Bum Cello's super-fantastic self-titled release on Comet
Records (also home to Tony Allen). Mr. Cello is an accomplished drummer,
bassist, and yes, cellist who's played with Cesaria Evora, Cheb Mami,
Aswad, Nana Vasconcelos and many others. He's also a wee bit of a graff
artist apparently. His collection of ten instrumentals is a wild and
wonderful blend of electronics, acoustics, avant-jazz and....passion. In
short, it kicks. Unfortunately, I don't have song titles on my promo copy,
or I'd share them with you. :-)
